Some recordings capture more than just music—they capture a moment in time. One of Swing41’s live recordings comes from a Copenhagen Jazz Festival 2007 gig at Tranquebar, a cozy library café near Nyhavn in Copenhagen. With its warm atmosphere and audience seated just a few steps from the stage, it felt more like playing in someone’s living room than in a venue.
To keep things simple, I placed a Zoom field recorder right in front of us. It picked up the room, the energy, and—unintentionally—one very young audience member.Midway through the tune, you can hear the unmistakable sound of a crying infant. It’s a reminder that live jazz is full of surprises, from unexpected solos to, well… unexpected guests.
